MIRA publicizes list of non-compliant large tax payers
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has released a list of 43 individuals and companies who have failed to file their income tax returns for last year.
These entities are classified as large tax payers as their total income, including that of their associates, exceed MVR 200 million in a year.
The deadline for filing last year’s income tax return was June 30. MIRA said prior to publishing the list, the agency had repeatedly reminded the tax payer of their obligations through emails, SMS and phone calls, and urged them to comply with the law and warned of the penalties for non-compliance.
MIRA said the agency will continue to take strict measures under its enforcement policy to recover unpaid taxes and other amounts without discrimination. Those who have yet to file or pay their taxes are encouraged to do so immediately to avoid further penalties. Once taxpayers fulfill their obligations, their names will be removed from the public list.
