MIFCO to fully relocate fish factory operations to Felivaru next week
The fish factory operations that were carried out at K. Kanduoiygiri by MIFCO will be fully shifted to and operational at Felivaru island from next week, the company has said.
MIFCO ceased all its operations in Kanduoiygiri and handed over the island to Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) in August this year. The main activity carried out in Kanduoiygiri was the operation of a fish processing factory.
The company has been working on transferring its operations to Felivaru and expects to finalize the process by the end of this week. According to MIFCO, the supply process is already underway, with various fish products including loins and ‘lifestyle’ products becoming available this
The MNDF had earlier given MIFCO until September 15 to vacate Kanduoiygiri. However, the deadline was later extended until the 15th of this month. MIFCO had earlier said that the evacuation of the island was delayed due to the need to remove heavy-duty equipment and machinery, which require the use of cranes and landing craft.
Earlier, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam told reporters that financial assistance had been secured to shift the operations in Kanduoiygiri to Hulhumale’.
