Gov’t cuts 248 political positions in cost-saving efforts
The Maldivian government has terminated 248 political appointments as part of its economic reform and cost-cutting strategy.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said in a post on social media on October 15 that 228 political appointees within a 15-day period. On Friday, Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed that 248 political employees have been reduced as of Thursday.
Heena added that the Cabinet has also decided to set up a system to monitor political appointeesβ performance to enhance efficiency. The system will be implemented very soon, she said.
Earlier, Heena had stated that the government would disclose the total number of political appointees on Friday. However, the information has not yet been released thus far.
