World Cargo Airlines joins sea-to-air cargo service
The Maldives’ sea-to-air cargo service, launched in March, has welcomed its 12th airline partner, World Cargo Airlines from Malaysia.
The sea-to-air cargo service is a joint venture between the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), and the Maldives Customs Service, established in alignment with Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to diversify and strengthen the economy. The service is designed to facilitate the transit of goods arriving by sea and departing by air. Currently, goods are being transported to 13 countries, and the number of airlines involved in the service has now increased to twelve.
The newest airline to collaborate on the service is World Cargo Airlines of Malaysia. In its initial shipment, the airline shipped clothing goods brought to the Maldives via sea route from Bangladesh, to European countries.
MPL said the service has been expanding at a rapid pace since its launch, and has so far generated more than $3 million in revenue.
