Maldivesβ main international airport, Velana International Airport (VIA) has achieved a historic milestone, recording over 1,000 flight movements in a single day.
The record was attained on December 22, with 234 runway move events and 766 air taxi movements.
The surge in air traffic movements at VIA is attributed the large influx of tourists traveling to the Maldives for the New Year.
The Tourism Ministry has set a target of hosting 2 million tourists this year, a goal the government expects to achieve on Thursday.
