Vape ban to take effect tonight
The use and sale of vaping devices will be banned across the Maldives effective from 0000 hrs tonight.
The ban is part of recent amendments to the Tobacco Control Act ratified by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on November 13. According to the amendments, the sale, free distribution, and use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices will be prohibited by law from December 15.
If vaping devices are imported to the Maldives after this date, a fine of MVR 50,000 will be incurred for the offense. Other vape-related penalties include an MVR 20,000 fine for the sale of vaping devices, and MVR 10,000 for each device sold, an MVR 10,000 fine for the use of each vaping device, and an MVR 5,000 fine for the possession and use of vapes.
