Tourism sector boasts over 61,000 beds, says Tourism Ministry

Over 61,000 beds are currently being utilised to accommodate tourists in the Maldives, the Tourism Ministry has said.

According to statistics released by the Ministry, the total number of tourist beds available across 1,170 beds is 61,713. These include 42,085 beds in 172 resorts, 14,138 beds in 825 guesthouses, 3,180 beds in 157 liveaboard and 2,310 beds in 15 hotels.

According to the ministry, 1,271 tourism facilities were operational at the end of last year, with 63,248 beds.

A total of 817,782 tourists visited the Maldives as of Monday, of which 70.3 percent — 575,043 — spent their holidays at resorts. Guesthouses hosted 197,243 tourists, while 24,322 tourists stayed in hotels.
