Temporary drainage systems installed to address flooding in Male’
Temporary systems have been installed in two areas of Male’ City to address the flooding issues faced by the city.
The temporary systems were installed in the West Park area and the Villimale Ferry Terminal area. The Construction and Infrastructure Ministry said it is working to install similar systems in other areas of the city, with a system currently being installed near IGMH. Once completed, a second system will be installed in the Artificial Beach area.
The roads in the city are easily flooded during the rainy season, and some homes sustain damage from the water. There are also situations where the residents need to be relocated to a temporary shelter and require financial assistance.
The ministry began work in May to implement temporary solutions until the city’s roads are fully reconstructed with assistance form the Chinese government.
