STELCO launches Annex-II power house in Hulhumale’

The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO)’s Annex-II power house has been opened for peak handling and as a power backup for the Greater Male’ Area. The power house was officially opened at a ceremony held on Saturday night.
The new annex was inaugurated with STELCO’s Managing Director Hussain Fahmy and Deputy Managing Director Aishath Muzak unfurling the national flag and STELCO’s flag at the site. MD Fahmy started one of the generators installed at the power plant at the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Fahmy said that STELCO employees have completed a significant national work within a short period of time with the noble spirit of serving the people of the Maldives. He emphasised that the project, including clearing a 48,000 square foot land and removing about 200 tonnes of garbage, took only nine days to reach completion. He acknowledged the contribution of STELCO’s employees in the successful completion of the project and thanked them for their efforts.
Fahmy further stated that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu closely monitored the progress of the project since its initiation. He expressed gratitude to the President for considering possible challenges in the project and providing advise and guidance on how to navigate potential challenges. He also said he was informed that the President himself attended some meetings relating to acquiring the land for the project.
The power plant will have a total of 12 generator sets of 1.6 MW. STELCO said while seven generator sets have been commissioned so far, five more generator sets will be brought and commissioned into service before the end of this Ramadan, bringing the installed capacity of Annex-II of the Hulhumale’ Power Plant to 19.2 MW.
