Sinamale’ Bridge water pipeline set to be operational by year-end

The water pipeline laid across the Sinamale’ Bridge to connect the water networks of Male’, Hulhule’, and Hulhumale’ is expected to be operational by the end of this year.

The MWSC water pipeline on the Sinamale’ Bridge was installed five years ago in 2020 at a cost of $200,000.

Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim told reporters that depsite the water network being laid in 2020, the pipeline remained inactive as it was not connected to the grid. Work is already underway to connect the MWSC pump station in Hulhumale’ with the pump station in Male’ to begin operation, he said.

Thorig said water security will be further strengthened in the Greater Male’ Region with the introduction of the water network in the Male’ area.

The MWSC began work on the main transfer pump station on July 9 last year. The network will have the capacity to supply 800 tonnes of water per hour.
