Pres Muizzu seeks parliamentary approval for Cabinet reshuffle
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sought parliamentary approval for changes to the Cabinet following the dissolution of the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and reassigning its functions to other ministries.
On December 26 last year, President Dr Muizzu changed the composition of the Cabinet, renaming and renewing the mandate of some Ministries. The changes included appointing former Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer as the Minister of Finance and Planning, former Housing Minister Dr Ali Haidhar Ahmed as Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, former Higher Education Minister Dr Maryam Mariya as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, and Dr Abdulla Muththalib as Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure. With this change, the President disbanded the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and transferred that Ministry’s operations and services to the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
The request to approve these appointments has been forwarded to the Parliament’s Government Oversight Committee for review in an extraordinary session held on Thursday.
