Police report decline in crime across Maldives in September
Maldives Police Service has reported a decline in crime rates in September compared to August this year.
Sharing the statistics of cases reported to the police, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan said theft, robbery and overall all types of crime decreased in September compared to August. Additionally, traffic accidents, domestic violence and sexual harassment cases also saw a reduction. ACP Shifan attributed the improvement to the implementation of the police strategic plan.
Statistics of cases reported to the police:
Theft – August: 327 cases | September: 230 cases
Traffic accidents – August: 204 cases | September: 143 cases
Robbery – August: 46 cases | September: 32 cases
Drugs – August: 134 cases | September: 111 cases
Domestic Violence – August: 31 cases | September: 11 cases
Sexual Harassment – 43 August: cases | September: 12 cases
Assault – August: 55 cases | September: 48 cases
In addition, cases of vandalism, counterfeiting and forgery also saw a decline. Vandalism incidents dropped from 50 cases in August to 40 in September, while cases of counterfeiting and forgery fell from 16 to 12.
