Over 90,000 tourist arrivals in the first two weeks of the year

The number of tourists that visited the Maldives during the first two weeks of the year is 90,659.

According to statistics by the Tourism Ministry, this is an eight percent increase compared to the same period last year when 83,966 arrivals were recorded.

The current daily average for tourist arrivals is 6,476.

The top ten source markets for Maldives tourism are:

Russia: 12,920 tourists
Italy: 10,662 tourists
UK: 7,698 tourists
China: 6,667 tourists
Germany: 5,725 tourists
India: 4,241 tourists
USA: 3,028 tourists
France: 2,838 tourists
Kazakhstan: 1,863 tourists
Romania: 1,839 tourists

Of the total arrivals, 63,414 tourists, or 69.9 percent, opted to stay in resorts. While 22,648—or 25 percent—stayed at local guesthouses, 2,359 stayed at hotels, and another 2,203 tourists holidayed on safari vessels.

There are currently 172 resorts, 825 guesthouses, 155 safaris, and 15 hotels operating in the Maldives. The total number of tourist beds available at these establishments is 61,464.
