No cause for concern amid ongoing operations, assures gov’t

The government has assured that there is no reason for alarm despite special operations conducted by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) across the Male’ area on Monday.
In the operation conducted around 11:00 pm on Monday night, the authorities stopped a pickup truck near the Republic Square area in Male’ City. The driver was subsequently arrested after searching the pickup and the driver’s residence.
The police also searched a residence in Galolhu ward, a garage in Henveiru ward, as well as an apartment in Vinares Tower, Hulhumale’. Three people were arrested in these operations, although their profiles and the charges against them have not yet been disclosed.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry regarding the operations, it revealed that the operations were conducted based on intelligence reports, to ensure the safety of the nation and its people. Although the operation is still ongoing, the Ministry assured that there is no cause for concern.
The statement further said authorities are always vigilant and take quick measures to ensure that the Maldives remains a peaceful and safe country.
Although MPS has said the operation was a national security-related operation, no other details have been provided. The police said more information will be shared as it becomes available.
