N. Kafakomandoo to be developed as integrated tourism zone
N. Henbadhoo Council has announced plans to develop N. Kafakomandoo as an integrated tourism zone.
Kafakomandoo is an island under Henbadhoo Council’s jurisdiction.
The council is currently seeking a party to develop a land use plan with Kafakomandoo as an integrated tourism zone. Those interested in the work are required to register to submit their bids, with registration open until October 10. An information session regarding the land use plan will be held on October 14, and bids are required to be submitted to the Henbadhoo Council on October 17.
Henbadhoo Council said several foreign parties have already expressed interest in Kafakomandoo. However, the island cannot be leased to any party for long term until the land use plan is approved, the council said.
Henbadhoo Council projects that the 50-year lease will generate better revenue than the state’s current grant aid to the council. The council has decided to allocate a percentage of the jobs created by the tourism project to Henbadhoo residents.
