MIRA recovers MVR 3.7 billion in outstanding taxes

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has recovered MVR 3.7 billion in outstanding taxes.

According to MIRA’s annual report for 2024, the amount was recovered through enforcement measures, including sending notices, dues clearance, legal action and bank account freezing.

Details of recovery methods:

Notice – MVR 2.74 billion
Dues Clearance – MVR 625.74 million
Disclosure – MVR 43.94 million
Bank account freezing policy – MVR 109.42 million
Legal Action – MVR 86,733
Reminder Calls / Email – MVR 239.87 million

MIRA issued notices to 52,158 individuals and companies asking them to file tax returns, out of which 4,311 persons complied with the notices. Notices were sent to 36,843 persons to pay their outstanding taxes, and 8,139 persons complied with the notices.

In addition, installment plans were arranged for 1,029 tax payers, covering a total of MVR 2.5 billion.
