MET Office warns of adverse weather during New Year holidays
The Maldives Meteorological Service, MET Office has stated that the Maldives will experience adverse weather conditions over the next five days.
The MET Office said a cyclone in the south-eastern Sri Lanka and the low pressure trough associated with it are expected to cause severe weather conditions during the New Year holidays. The unfavorable weather is expected to last from January 1 until January 5.
While heavy thunderstorms, strong winds and rough seas are expected, sea swells are also expected in some atolls. Winds are expected to be between 15 and 25 mph in the north and central atolls, with gusts up to 50 mph during showers.
The MET Office asked all parties, specially seafarers to exercise caution when traveling.
