MET Office issues weather warning amid stormy conditions
Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a weather warning due to unfavourable conditions expected to affect the region.
According to the MET Office, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected between Shaviyani to Alifu Dhaalu atoll. A yellow alert, which will be in effect until 11:15 am on Tuesday, has been issued for the area.
The meteorological service predicts winds in southern atolls to range from 13 to 23 mph, coming from the west and southwest, lasting until 6:00 pm on Tuesday. Winds between 7 and 17 mph are expected in other regions, with gusts of up to 40 mph during showers.
The MET Office said the southern seas are expected to be rough, while moderate seas are predicted elsewhere. However, rough seas are expected during showers across Maldives. In southern seas, wave heights are expected reach between four and seven feet, and three and six feet in northern and central atolls.
