MDP Pres describes current gov’t as deceptive and oppressive
The opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s President Abdulla Shahid has described the current government as an oppressive and deceitful administration. He made the statement while speaking at the MDP councilor’s Conference on Sunday.
Speaking at the conference, Shahid said there are two competing ideologies currently in the Maldives: One representing freedom, decentralization and unity, and the other symbolizing enslavement, centralized power, and deceit. While the current government shares the first ideology, he asserted that the MDP stands for the latter.
“The MDP stands for the ideology of freedom and decentralization, and the people of the Maldives clearly understand this,” he said.
Shahid said the current administration advocates for the concentration of power, deceit, and fostering division and hatred among the people. Despite this situation in the Maldives, MDP would not back down, he promised.
