Maldives welcomes over 500,000 tourists this year

The Maldives has recorded over 500,000 tourist arrivals thus far this year.

According to the Tourism Ministry, a total of 500,233 tourists visited the Maldives as of Tuesday. This is an increase of 21,817 tourists compared to the 478,416 tourists who visited during the same period last year.

Germany – 33,045 tourists
India – 23,823 tourists
France – 20,824 tourists
United States – 15,344 tourists
Poland – 11,391 tourists
Switzerland – 11,045 tourists

According to statistics, 69.1 percent of the tourists visiting the Maldives, which amounts to 345,495, spent their holidays in resorts. Guesthouses accounted for 25.6 percent of arrivals, or 127,954 tourists. Additionally, 14,224 tourists stayed in hotels, 12,266 in safari vessels and 295 in other tourism facilities.

There are currently 175 resorts, 831 guesthouses, 157 safari vessels and 15 hotels operating in the Maldives.
