Maldives Immigration warns of officer impersonators
The Maldives Immigration has warned the public regarding individuals posing as immigration officers to gain access to foreign resident’s living quarters to commit crimes.
The appeal comes after police arrested a man who posed as an immigration officer and attempted to rob an individual.
Immigration said it had received information about imposters conducting unauthorized searches in Immigration’s name. Such persons are not immigration officers and if they are genuine officers involved in raids, they will be in uniform and will carry an immigration pass, Immigration confirmed.
“Therefore, we urge all parties to remain vigilant and check the identification and credentials of such individuals if in doubt,” the Immigration said.
