Jetties dedicated for cruise ships to be established across three locations
Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has announced that designated jetties for cruise liners will be established in three areas across the Maldives.
Speaking to the state media, PSM, Minister Faisal said several plans are in place to increase the number of of cruise ships visiting the Maldives. He noted that over 600 tourists visited the Maldives last year and this year, with the eases brought to accommodate cruise ships in a more accessible manner.
Regarding the efforts to establish dedicated jetties, the minister said several locations are being assessed to determine the best locations to establish the jetties.
“We are assessing locations such as Addu and Laamu Atoll for this purpose,” he said.
Last week, a Bahamas-registered cruise ship, Crystal Symphony, docked in Male’ carrying 212 passengers. Additional cruise ships are scheduled to arrive in the Maldives during the current tourism peak season.
