Islamic Ministry launches investigation against Umrah service provider

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has launched an investigation into Umrah service provider, Askoi Group.
The Islamic Minister, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed Thursday said concerns relating to the group have been brought to the attention of the Ministry.
“The relevant units are looking into this matter. We will take strict action against Umrah groups who do not adhere to the established rules and regulations,” the Minister said.
According to social media reports, Askoi group collected payments from intending pilgrims for their pilgrimage, but later informed them that the trip could not be arranged.
Similar cases have surfaced in recent months, with Umrah service provides accused of taking payments without providing the promised services Earlier this year, a case where an Umrah service provider took payments and fraudulently obtained US dollars was also disclosed by the Ministry. The permits and licenses issued to such groups have been revoked in some cases, the Minister said, but details were not provided.
