Housing Ministry confirms Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme info unaffected by fire
The Housing Ministry has stated that the documents related to the allocation of flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme remain unaffected in the fire ravaging the Housing Ministry.
A fire broke out at the Housing Ministry building on Ameenee Magu this morning and remains uncontrolled. While the Maldives National Defense Force’s Fire and Rescue are active at the site, surrounding buildings have been evacuated for safety. Efforts are ongoing to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The fire occurs while the Housing Ministry prepares to release the long-awaited list of flat recipients under the previous government’s Gedhoriveriyaa Scheme in the coming days, a publication that has been delayed for months due to ongoing review.
In a statement following the fire, the ministry said the information related to the housing scheme is securely stored digitally on the ministry’s cloud hosting system.
“This incident does not affect the information in any way,” the ministry assured the public.
The ministry also confirmed that no ministry employees were injured in the fire. It is consulting with the relevant authorities regarding the safety and security measures, and detailed information will be provided later, the ministry added.
