High Court Assistant Registrar submits resignation amid investigation

High Court Assistant Registrar Hussain Mohamed Haneef has requested to resign from his post, with the resignation set to take effect on 15 May.
Haneef had given statements in a Judicial Service Commission (JSC) disciplinary case involving several Supreme Court justices. His resignation comes amid unconfirmed reports that he is set to take up a senior position in a government-owned company.
The JSC began investigating a disciplinary case against former Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood following allegations that he had summoned Haneef to the court and addressed him using derogatory language in 2022. While it was said the incident occurred in the presence of two other Supreme Court Justices, Azmiralda Zahir, and Mahaz Ali Zahir, the JSC also launched investigations into the two justices.
Suood resigned from the Supreme Court amid the investigation, and therefore, JSC could not proceed with Suood’s case.
