The President of The Democrats, Hassan Latheef has resigned from the post and rejoined the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
The Democrats have confirmed that both President Latheef and Vice President Mohamed Shifaz have left the party to join the MDP.
Prior to joining the Democrats following disagreements within MDP, both Latheef and Shifaz held senior positions in MDP. While Shifaz previously served as the party’s Vice President, Hassan Latheef was the party’s Chairperson. Latheef and Shifaz were among the leaders who spearheaded the establishment of the Democrats following a fallout between senior MDP members.
Former Managing Director of the State Trading Organization (STO) Hussain Amr and former Henveiru Central MP Ali Azim have also rejoined MDP.
