Gov’t denies cabinet reshuffle rumors

The government has dismissed claims that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is planning a Cabinet reshuffle.

On Sunday, speculations arose on social media platform X, following the resignation of Agriculture Minister Dr. Aishath Rameela, who stepped down due to health concerns. The posts alleged that President Dr. Muizzu intended to restructure the Cabinet by reshuffling and dismissing ministers.

Addressing the rumors on X, Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed said the President had not made any decision to bring any changes to the Cabinet.

The current Cabinet comprises 22 ministers. Of the original Cabinet appointed in November 2023, Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq resigned from the post before the government’s first anniversary. Dr. Shafeeq was subsequently replaced by then-Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, and Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel was appointed in his place. The Health Ministry is now headed by Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.
