Former FSM head Suhail appointed as Deputy Minister

Ismail Suhail, who resigned as Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM)’s Managing Director amid allegations of fraud within the company, has been appointed as a Deputy Minister of the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
Suhail resigned as the Managing Director of FSM in November last year following massive oil theft and fraud allegations within the company. Special police teams questioned ten individuals, searched two homes and two oil barges and recovered electronic equipment and documents related to the case. It has been reported that MVR 21 million had been circulated in the bank account of an individual involved in the case.
It is unclear whether Suhail was appointed to the political post after concluding the investigation into the allegations against him.
