FAM’s ex General Secretary to face charges over corruption scandal
The Former General Secretary of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Hussain Javaaz will also be prosecuted in connection with the corruption uncovered at FAM, sources have said.
Reliable sources said the Prosecutor General’s Office is preparing to charge Javaaz in relation to the case. However the office has not yet comment on the matter.
Javaaz, who resigned from his position as FAM General Secretary, currently serves as the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Youth, Empowerment, Information and Arts.
Meanwhile, former FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel is already facing trial for alleged embezzlement of funds provided to the FAM by the FIFA. Two former employees of the FAM have also been charged with embezzlement, in addition to Amin Construction Pvt Ltd. However, these trials are yet to commence.
If convicted, Bassam and others implicated in the corruption are expected to face long prison sentences.
