Dhiffushi records highest 24-hour rainfall documented in the Maldives

Dhiffushi of Kaafu Atoll has recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall documented in the Maldives.

According to the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office), between 8:00 am on Saturday to 8:00 am on Sunday, Dhiffushi received 296.1 mm of rain, the highest amount recorded since the MET Office began collecting weather data.

Rainfall recorded over the past 24 hours:

K. Dhiffushi: 296.1 mm
Hulhumale: 185.2 mm
F. Nilandhoo: 178.2 mm
Hulhule: 177.2 mm
B. Goidhoo: 166.3 mm

Heavy rainfall experienced across the Maldives caused flooding in Male’ and several other islands. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Fire and Rescue were active to manage floodwaters.

In response to the severe weather conditions and the resulting hardships faced by the public, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu declared Sunday a public holiday across the country.
