Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has resigned from the position.
Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed said CP Shujau’s resignation was submitted to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, which the President accepted. However, she did not provide any further details.
Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan said the police’s top priority at this time remains the ongoing investigation into a case where a 21-year-old girl fell from a building in Henveiru.
“Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen is leading the investigation and I have appointed him to temporarily take over the responsibility of the Commissioner until a new appointment is made,” Ihsan said.
Shujau resigned as CP amid ongoing public protests demanding accountability for the incident, with allegations of police in the investigation.
