Contract signed for new Thulusdhoo powerhouse

A contract for the construction of Thulusdhoo’s new powerhouse, customer service building and the surrounding wall of the powerhouse has been signed between the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) and Sunwill Private Limited.
The work was awarded to the contractor for MVR 11,954,501 with a completion date of 175 days. STELCO’s Managing Director Hussain Fahmy signed the agreement on behalf of the company, while Sunwill’s Managing Director Abdullah Rafiu signed the agreement on behalf of the company.
STELCO’s Managing Director Hussain Fahmy said the existing powerhouse in Thulhudhoo is also of good quality but the decision to build a new powerhouse was taken as the existing powerplant is situated in a residential area.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thulusdhoo Council President Aslam Moosa said the project has been long awaited by the island’s resident. He noted that local tourism will be expanded on the island, which in turn would double the island’s consumption in the near future.
