A Bangladeshi national arrested for illegal possession and trafficking of liquor has been handed over to Immigration for deportation.
Sofigul Islam, 44, was taken into custody on May 5 last year in a joint operation conducted by Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement. During the operation, he was stopped and searched in the streets of Male’ city, leading to a subsequent search of his residence. Eighteen bottles of liquor were discovered by authorities during the search.
Police are investigating the incident.
