Maldives sees 4.9% rise in tourist arrivals, China leads source markets

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives this year has increased by 4.9 percent.

According to the Tourism Ministry, a total of 481,966 tourists visited the Maldives as of Saturday. This is an increase of 22,593 tourists compared to the 459,373 tourists that visited the archipelago during the same period last year.

Germany – 31,389 tourists
India – 22,956 tourists
France – 19,940 tourists
United States – 14,607 tourists

Switzerland – 10,440 tourists

According to statistics, 69 percent of the tourists visiting the Maldives (332,773 visitors) spent their holidays in resorts. Guesthouses accounted for 25.6 percent (123,486 visitors). Meanwhile, 13,617 tourists stayed in hotels, 11,803 in safari vessels and 288 in other tourism facilities..

There are currently 174 resorts, 826 guesthouses, 157 safari vessels and 15 hotels operating in the Maldives.
