ACC and Thinadhoo Council dispute over corruption probe

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has entered Thinadhoo City Council Secretariat as part of an ongoing investigation amid corruption allegations circulating on social media.

The Thinadhoo City Council claimed that several individuals from ACC who entered the Secretariat “stole” items from the council. While this matter has been filed with the police and investigations are underway, some of the Council’s services have been temporarily disrupted.

However, the police stated that their investigation so far does not align with the Council’s narrative. Further investigations are underway, they said.

In response, the ACC refuted the council’s allegations, stating that a team from the commission was active at Thinadhoo Council on Sunday to obtain documents essential for the investigation. In a statement, the ACC expressed concern about the baseless allegations made about the commission by the Thinadhoo Council. ACC accused the council of non-cooperation, asserting that the commission followed all procedures under the Maldives Constitution and the ACC Act to obtain the required documents.
