Nearly 14,000 tonnes of floodwater pumped from Male’

Nearly 14,000 tonnes of water have been pumped from Male’ roads following heavy rains.

Male’ experienced heavy rainfall in the early hours of Saturday, flooding its roads and significantly disrupting daily life.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said its Fire and Rescue Service installed pumps in 23 locations across Male’ to alleviate the flood waters. Key areas affected include West Park area, IGMH area and VIllimale’ Ferry Terminal area, with additional pumps placed near the King Salman Mosque, Dharubaaruge area as well as near the Social Center and other critical locations. A total of 13,882 tonnes of water were pumped from the city’s roads under the efforts.

According to Maldives Meteorological Service, Male’ experienced the highest rainfall over the last 24 hours. Since 8:00 am on Friday to 8:00 am on Saturday, 130.7 millimeters of rain were recorded in the city.
