Housing Ministry denies influence in flat list review
The Housing Ministry has dismissed allegations of political influence in the verification process of applicants for 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme in Hulhumale.
During President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s MDP administration, a total of 20,697 applications were received for the flats, out of which 18,167 people were deemed eligible. The new government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is currently reviewing the applications, with the Housing Ministry having given multiple dates for the reviewed list’s publicization. However, it has not been released to date.
Addressing rumors of influence in finalizing the list, the Housing Ministry in a statement reassured citizens that the process is impartial and aimed at allocating flats to the most deserving applicants. The ministry asserted that the claims of political pressure are false and baseless.
The Housing Ministry in its latest update said more time is needed to complete the verification process, and would publicize the list as soon as the work is completed.
