Over 2.2 mln tourists expected to visit Maldives in 2025
The Finance Ministry has forecast that tourist arrivals to the Maldives will reach 2.2 million in 2025.
In the recently released “Medium Range Debt Strategy 2025 – 2027”, the Finance Ministry said the upcoming opening of Velana International Airport (VIA)’s new terminal later this year will boost tourist arrivals to the Maldives. In this regard, by 2025, the number of tourists visiting the Maldives is expected to increase by 10.7 percent to 2.23 million, while the number of arrivals is expected to have an average annual growth rate of 8.6 percent in the medium term.
The Finance Ministry estimates that tourist bed nights will increase by 7.2 percent this year compared to the previous year. While resort bed nights are expected to rise by 3.9 percent, the growth in bed nights may be lower than the increase in tourist arrivals, as the average stay duration is expected to decline. The ministry said bed nights are expected to increase by 8.3 percent in 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 7.2 percent over the medium term.
