Cyber crime the most prevalent form of crime in the Maldives: Police
Chief Inspector of Police Raufuddin Saeed has stated that cyber crimes committed through the internet is the most prevalent crime form in the Maldives.
Speaking on state media, Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Fayaz said that October is celebrated as the International Month of Awareness against Internet Crimes and special programs are planned to educate the public against cyber crime during this month.
According to Fayaz, special activities will be conducted on social media through dedicated channels on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. In addition to these activities, special booths will be set up in all the islands where police stations are located and in the Hulhumale Hiyaa neighborhood on October 20, he said.
Despite these efforts, Chief Inspector Raufuddin said given the current situation of cyber crime in the Maldives, a one month campaign to raise awareness will not be enough to produce results. He emphasized the need for continuous efforts to combat such crimes.
