Dialogue during Pres Dr. Muizzu’s state visit will strengthen ties: Jaishankar
India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has stated that the discussions between Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during President Dr. Muizzu’s ongoing state visit to India will further strengthen relations between both countries. The minister made the statement on social media platform X following a courtesy call on President Dr. Muizzu on Sunday.
During their meeting, Dr. Jaishankar warmly welcomed President Dr. Muizzu on his state visit to India. President Dr. Muizzu conveyed his gratitude to the Indian government for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation upon arrival.
At the meeting, the President and the Minister spoke extensively on fostering and maintaining good ties between the two countries. The two sides reviewed the progress of current initiatives supported by the Indian government and discussed exploring additional avenues which both countries see mutual benefits in line with the current development priorities of the Maldives. Providing affordable housing as well as quality healthcare services, tourism promotion, and expanding fisheries and agriculture sectors across the country were flagged as key areas of focus that largely impact the welfare of the people of the Maldives.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the President and the Minister agreeing to broaden the existing relationship between the governments and people of the Maldives and India.
President Dr. Muizzu is scheduled to meet with PM Modi today, with his state visit set to conclude on October 10.
