Gov’t allocates 73 hectares for grouper breeding

The government has announced plans to allocate a significant area for grouper breeding. The decision was made following discussions at a Cabinet meeting held Monday, after reviewing a proposal submitted by the Fisheries Ministry.

According to the President’s Office, a total of 73 hectares of reef area, located approximately seven kilometers south of the Vaadhoo Channel in the southern region of Male’ atoll will be designated for commercial-scale grouper breeding.

In addition to this, the government has decided to develop mariculture in four zones across Maldives. The zones designated for mariculture development are in Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani Atoll, Raa Atoll, Meemu Atoll and Thaa Atoll.
