BML’s CEO Karl Stumke resigns amid ongoing investigation

Bank of Maldives (BML)’s CEO Karl Stumke has officially resigned from his position, the bank announced in a statement today.

Stumkle was appointed assistant BML’s CEO in October 2022. According to the bank, he stepped down from his role on Sunday.

Stumke’s resignation comes as police are investigating elongations that BML and a certain members of the opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) conspired to orchestrate a financial coup. Despite his resignation, Stumke will remain in office until the conclusion of the bank’s general meeting on September 21, BML said.

The bank has confirmed it is currently in the process of appointing a new CEO. The Deputy CEO, Aishath Nooraddin will act as CEO during the interim period.

Aishath Nooraddin also resigned from the bank’s board last month. However, she continues to service as the Deputy CEO.
