VIA sees four percent rise in int’l flights
The number of international flight movements at the Velana International Airport (VIA) increased by four percent as of July this year, statistics have shown.
According to the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the number of international flight movements at VIA reached 9,698 between January and July 2024. This marks a rise compared to the 9,284 movements recorded during the same period last year.
Out of the total, 8,866 were scheduled international flights, while 832 were charter and private flights.
According to the Tourism Ministry, more than 40 airlines from 22 countries operated flights to Maldives as of July. More than 1.1 million tourists visited the Maldives within the same timeframe.
