Damage caused by heavy rains exceeds MVR one mln: NDMA
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that the damage caused by last month’s heavy rains in the Maldives exceeds MVR 1 million.
Following the rains, NDMA assessed the damage to 89 houses across 10 islands. The NDMA said the damage to buildings and belongings caused by the rain, which began on August 9, amounted to MVR 1,084,169.
The NDMA has identified HA. Uligam, HA. Ihavandhoo, HA. Hoarafushi, HA. Baarah, HA. Kelaa, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, B. Eydhafushi, AA. Ukulhas, Hithadhoo, and Feydhoo island of Addu City as the most severely affected islands by the rains. The NDMA is actively working to provide assistance to those affected by the heavy rains in both the atolls and Male’ City, the agency assured.
