Maldives gov’t submits proposal to introduce PayPal services
The Maldivian government has submitted a proposal to PayPal to bring the internationally popular payment system to the Maldives. This development was announced by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.
Making PayPal services available in the Maldives is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Currently, while PayPal users in the Maldives can send money, they are unable to receive funds through the platform.
In an interview with state media, PSM, Minister Saeed Saturday said that the Maldivian government’s proposal was submitted to PayPal three days ago. He expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with PayPal soon.
“I cannot say exactly when PayPal services will be launched in the Maldives. However, I am hopeful PayPal services will be brought to the Maldives,” Saeed said.
Last month, Minister Saeed held discussions with PayPal officials to address the challenges faced in launching PayPal services in the Maldives. In addition, during his recent visit to the US, Minister Saeed held discussions with relevant US officials to bring PayPal to the Maldives.
