UNODC donates maritime security equipment
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has donated maritime security equipment to the MNDF Coast Guard under its Global Maritime Crime Program.
The equipment was funded by the European Union Service for Foreign Policy Instruments. The donation was officially handed over at a ceremony held at the MNDF’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Villimale’, with UNODC’s Head of Office of Maldives, Enrico Boninsegna handing over the equipment on behalf of UNODC. MNDF Coast Guard Commandant, Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem received the equipment on behalf of the Coast Guard.
The equipment donated by UNODC will enhance the Maldives’ capabilities in combating maritime terrorism in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), said MNDF.
