Azim attributes gov’t’s inability to cancel land allocations to MDP’s strategic planning
The opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Male’ Constituency President and Male’ Mayor, Adam Azim, has asserted that the current administration has been unable to cancel land and flat allocations made by the previous MDP government due to the strategic and effective manner in which they were implemented.
Speaking at the MDP National Assembly on Wednesday, Azim said MDP’s foresight to issue land registries during their administration has prevented the current government from redistributing these properties to whom they please.
Azim also expressed concern over the government’s inability to address the housing crisis in Male’ City. While the MDP government had intended to provide flats and land to the people to ensure housing, the current government has not handed over the flats and land to its recipients, leaving many without homes, he said.
Azim added that as mayor of Male’ City, the most frequent complaint from he receives is the delay in handing over the promised land and flats.
Under the MDP governmentβs Binveriyaa Scheme, over 9,000 plots were allocated, and recipients of 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme were identified. However, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is reportedly preparing to issue a new list of flat recipients.
