MDP resolves to take to the streets over alleged unfair dismissals of gov’t employees
The opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s National Assembly has passed a resolution to look into the alleged unfair dismissals of government employees and, if necessary, take to the streets in protest.
The resolution was unanimously passed at the MDP National Assembly meeting held at the party office on Wednesday. Proposed by the assembly’s Thimarafushi President Anwar Ibrahim, the resolution expressed concern that the government was unjustly dismissing employees. The party pledged not to stand by idly and to take necessary actions to ensure justice for the affected employees.
Speaking at the assembly, MDP’s Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail emphasized that any harm to Maldivian citizens is a matter of concern for the party, and they will protest in the streets if required.
The resolution also approved the formation of a five-member committee, including MDP Vice President Hisan Hussain, Legal Director Mahfooz Saeed, Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir, Alifushi Constituency President Mohamed Rasheed (Bigey), and Kudahuvadhoo Constituency President Shakir Abdul Rahman.
