China’s Xiamen Air launches scheduled flights to the Maldives
China’s Xiamen Air has launched scheduled flights to the Maldives.
Earlier in February, the airline began charger flights to the Maldives. The first scheduled flight, a Boeing 787, landed at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Tuesday night. The airline will now operate three scheduled flights to VIA weekly.
Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL)’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef said the launch of Xiamen Air flights to the Maldives will contribute to achieving the Maldives’ goal of attracting two million tourists this year.
“This will also increase visitors to the Maldives from other countries,” Shareef said.
Xiamen Air will connect the Maldives with Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China.
In addition to Xiamen Air, four Chinese airlines currently fly to the Maldives. They are Beijing Capital, Sichuan Airlines, Chongqing Airlines and China Eastern.
