Maldives in talks to monetize TikTok
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has said that discussions are ongoing to enable revenue generation via TikTok in the Maldives.
TikTok has gained significant popularity globally, now boasting over a billion users.
Speaking to state media, Saeed said the government has initiated talks with TikTok’s regional offices to explore monetization options that would benefit the Maldives. He said the work is being pursued with the assistance of the Chinese government.
“We are making progress. I have highlighted our efforts over the last eight months in alignment with President’s pledges, in addressing the overall challenges facing content creators, particularly in the e-commerce sector,” he said.
The minister revealed that during his recent visit to the United States, he had discussions with relevant stakeholders on monetizing YouTube and introducing Google Pay services in the Maldives. Additionally, he said the Indian RuPay card would become usable in the Maldives before the end of next month.
